We’ve seen one teaser poster for Edgar Wright’s The World’s End, which reunites Wright with his Spaced, Shaun of the Dead, and Hot Fuzz actors Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. In fact, the film is the third part of a loose trilogy — the “blood and ice cream” films, which will be united by Cornetto ice cream and, er, blood. Now we’ve got another, which gives us a much more specific view of the film, even if it doesn’t show a single character.
The World’s End was scripted by Pegg and Wright, and follows a group of five friends on an epic pub crawl, during which they end up at a pub called The World’s End, which is likely a name that becomes quite close to literal by the conclusion of the film. The film also stars Rosamund Pike, Martin Freeman, Paddy Considine , and Eddie Marsan, and is now set for release in the UK on August 14th, 2013 and October 25th of that year in the US. The poster is above.
The World’s End synopsis:
20 years after attempting an epic pub crawl, five childhood friends reunite when one of them becomes hell bent on trying the drinking marathon again. They are convinced to stage an encore by mate Gary King, a 40-year old man trapped at the cigarette end of his teens, who drags his reluctant pals to their home town and once again attempts to reach the fabled pub, The World’s End. As they attempt to reconcile the past and present, they realize the real struggle is for the future, not just theirs but humankind’s. Reaching The World’s End is the least of their worries.

Last time we saw any photo evidence of Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright‘s effort to write their new film The World’s End, it was just a picture of the two with a whiteboard and an implied hope that ideas would be forthcoming. Now Pegg has posted a photo of the cover page for a second draft of what will presumably be the third film in the ‘not quite a trilogy’ set of films referred to as the Blood and Ice Cream series. (Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzzare the other two, with the films linked by a playfulness towards genres, and the Cornetto brand of ice cream.)
The date on this cover page is listed as 5/2/12, which one might interpret as February 5 of this year, in which case this draft has been finished for some time, or the upcoming May 2. Speculate all you like as to which date is the real one (both writers being British I’d expect Feb. 5) but the takeaway is simple: this one is happening, people.
I know we took our sweet time but as soon as I get back from outer space, we can finish this thing once and for all twitter.com/simonpegg/stat…

Photoshop artists, time to go to town doing some work to attempt to decipher what text is dimly seen through this page. (As if these two guys haven’t assumed that people would do that…)

Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg got attention as the director and co-writer/star, respectively, of the TV show Spaced, then built themselves a grand little geek empire with the movies Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz. Pegg and Wright wrote the two films together, and have teased a third movie in what has been jokingly called the ‘blood and ice cream’ trilogy. (So named for the presence of, well, blood, and Cornetto ice cream in the two existing films. See also The Three Flavours Cornetto Trilogy.) More than four years have passed since the release of Hot Fuzz, and those years have seen Pegg and Wright busy with other work. Wright spent much of that time on Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, while Pegg expanded his presence as an actor, getting to the point where your family members who haven’t seen one of Wright’s films started asking about the guy stealing scenes in 2011′s year-end blockbuster Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol. But if a photo posted on Twitter today is to be believed, Pegg and Wright are finally at work on the script for the final film in their (very) loose trilogy, The World’s End.
